Aion 2 has five crafts: Blacksmithing, Handicrafting, Armorsmithing, Alchemy and Cooking. Each recipe belongs to one craft, asks for a proficiency level in that craft and names its materials. Many materials are crafted themselves, so a weapon recipe hides a second and third layer of recipes. The crafting calculator expands every layer for the quantity you want and prices it at your own proficiency.
Proficiency is per craft
Every craft has its own proficiency level, from 1 to 100. Levels 1 to 50 are Novice and 51 to 100 are Professional. A recipe states the level it needs; below that level the game refuses the craft with "A higher Blacksmithing Crafting Proficiency Level is required". The calculator keeps one level per craft and uses it on every page, so a Blacksmithing level set on a sword also applies to a hammer or a horn.
The success chance depends on the gap
The chance a recipe shows is the maximum chance at the difference between your proficiency and the recipe's level. The game builds it from two gauges: each turn of a craft raises either a success gauge or a failure gauge, and whichever fills first decides the result. Being hit during a craft cancels it as a failure.
True Dragon Lord Longsword asks for Blacksmithing 55:
| Your Blacksmithing | Gap | Success chance |
|---|---|---|
| 55 | 0 | 67.51% |
| 65 | 10 | 79.03% |
| 75 | 20 | 86.17% |
| 100 | 45 | 94.01% |
The table ends at a gap of 65, where the chance stops at 94.64%. Materials such as Fine Thick Balaur Horn start much higher: 95.20% at their level 51. Recipes for Transfer Crafting have no chance table in the client, so the calculator shows none for them.
Failures and the real material bill
A failed craft uses its materials. For Transfer Crafting the game states it directly: "Materials are lost but transfer materials are preserved upon failure." The calculator therefore shows two figures for each material: what the plan needs if every craft succeeds, and what it needs on average at your chances.
At Blacksmithing 55, one True Dragon Lord Longsword needs 22 Fine Thick Balaur Horns if the craft succeeds the first time. At 67.51% a success takes 1.48 attempts on average, so the expected bill is 33 horns. At Blacksmithing 75 the same sword expects 26. The horns themselves are a craft at 95.20%, so each horn costs a little more than its two Balaur's Essence.
Combo results
Recipes with a Combo can turn a success into a better item. After a normal craft succeeds, the Combo activates at its own chance (20%, 25% or 30% depending on the recipe) and replaces the result. True Dragon Lord Longsword activates its Combo at 25% and turns into Splendent True Dragon Lord Longsword. Combo recipes are never chosen directly, so the calculator lists the Combo result next to the craft instead of planning it.
Transfer Crafting
A Transfer recipe takes one piece of gear besides its materials and carries that piece's enhancement, amplification and Soul Binding levels over to the result, which is then Soul Bound to the crafter. Each Transfer recipe accepts one of two pieces: the tradable and the non-tradable version of the same item. The calculator lets you pick the piece you hold, and the piece counts once per successful craft because a failure keeps it.
Obtaining instead of crafting
Any material that has its own recipe can be crafted or obtained. Marking it as obtained in the calculator removes its sub-recipe and moves it to the material list. Each material shows where the client says it comes from, such as gathering, a merchant or an expedition, and the monsters most likely to drop it with their drop chance. The amounts you already hold are kept in your browser and taken off the bill on every plan.
